Sunglasses in some manner have already been around for hundreds and hundreds of years, but it has only been in somewhat current time periods that wearing cool-looking shades has grown to become such an important and vital fashion accessory. Not only do they actually cover up your eyes and bring mystery to your identity, they furthermore filter out the detrimental UV radiation of the sun. If you intend to start looking stylish in sunglasses, however, there are some points you should be familiar with relating to style, face contour, and where never to wear them.

First, it is important to realize that even the most expensive sunglasses only cost a few dollars to make. Even the production of polarized lenses, an expensive-sounding process that helps to cut down on sun glare, adds only nickels to the manufacturing cost. At the end of the day, price and product quality are not always correlated. So if you are considering breaking the bank on an expensive pair of designer shades, you might want to reconsider. It is not necessary to pay a large sum of money for a brand name when it is easy to get cheaper options that offer the same level of eye protection.

But what does this mean in terms of style? Does it make any difference whatsoever what amount you pay? The answer greatly depends on who you ask. The reason I say this is because there exists a group of sunglass elitists that are found nearly everywhere. They are fully cognizant of what type of sunglasses were worn in which films, and they can probably tell if you paid enough money to look cool in your shades. This provides a nice segue into the first question: do you want to look cool for the elitists, or only yourself? If only you, I'm sure you will be able to identify tons of models for less than 30 bucks. If it's for the elitists, be prepared to spend $150 or more.

Your facial shape can help direct you regarding which sunglass styles to wear and which ones to avoid. If it happens to be your first time ordering sunglasses, it is probably best to not order over the Internet; you should model each style in front of a mirror. You'll want to pick a pair of frames that helps to offset your natural features. For example, if you have a round face, consider square frames to balance your contours. If your facial shape is rectangular, opt for vertically tall frames that will provide the illusion of shorter facial features. If your facial shape is on the square side, do not wear sunglasses with square-shaped frames because this will embellish the overall squareness of your face. And if you have an oval face, consider yourself lucky because just about every style of sunglasses works well with this facial shape.

However, looking cool is more than just appearance; it's a state of mind. With each frame, really look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself if the look gives you a sense of confidence. Thus, it will help in your quest to enhance your coolness.

Finally, a word of warning: Even though a bunch of scenarios exist where putting on those shades will enhance your coolness, there are a couple situations where this might have the opposite effect. For example, unless you are a celebrity, avoid wearing shades in a restaurant, nightclub, or any other dimly lit locale because you will open yourself up to ridicule. There are other examples as well; just use a little common sense and you should be able to avoid these kinds of social taboos.
